Biography

Daniel de Jarnette Sr. is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.

Daniel was the son of Jean de Jarnette and Mary Mumford. He either born on or baptized on 24 January 1713 Abingdon Parish, Gloucester Co, Virginia, British Colonial America. Other sources cite a christening date of Feb 2, 1713. He died either in 1754 or 1755, Prince Edward, Virginia, British Colonial America.[1] Daniel's birth as alternatively cited as February 2, 1713 in Abingdon Parish, Gloucester Co, VA and death as 1755 in Nottoway Parish, Prince Edward Co, VA.[2]

He was a carpenter & blacksmith and said to have arrived in Kentucky with Daniel Boone.[citation needed]

His will was probated in September 1755.[3]

Family

Daniel and Mary had eight children. These eight children are all mentioned in his will:

Research Notes

It is unclear if daughter Mary and Martha married the same Richard Perryman. The Frost book has a marriage and ancestors for Martha and none for Mary. This seems to be the source of confusion for many online family trees. [3]

We have listed a Christopher Ford, brother of our ancestor Martha Ford, dau. of Elias Ford in Prince Edward County, VA (formerly Amelia County). Martha Ford married Daniel DeJarnette in 1730's or 1740's; Martha was widowed in 1754, then in her will of 1780 she lists "my brother Christopher Ford" and Christopher DeJarnette as executors. Christopher Ford shows up other places in DeJarnette information. He is also mentioned in "The History of Prince Edward County, VA" I believe. Our ancestor, Christopher DeJarnette, was probably named after Christopher Ford, then he named his son Ford DeJarnette. The names carry all down through our line.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Daniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Daniel:

De Jarnette-116 and De Jarnette-3 appear to represent the same person because: LNAB is the same. These have same children, same time frame, same, wife and similar trees going down multiple generations particularly on the Perryman descendants

The last name is not spelled "Dejarnette." It is French. The "J" was capitalized because it was the name of a place, a proper noun. The "d" was lower case because it was simply a preposition. Before the advent of computers, no one placed a capital letter in the middle of a word.
